Where to Get Coffee Near Bridgewater Hall During Performance MCR 2026

Coming to Performance MCR at Bridgewater Hall on Wednesday 24th June 2026?

First things first: CAAAAWWWWFEE

Maybe you’re on the early train into Manchester.
Maybe you’ve already had three conversations before 9am.
Maybe you’re running on four hours’ sleep, a tote bag full of chargers, and the blind optimism that one flat white can fix your entire personality. We’ve all been there. Not to mention the fact WE KNOW the England game is on the night before – sore heads DEFINITELY incoming.

We get it.

Performance MCR is a full day of talks, networking, sponsor activations and bumping into people you’ve maybe only ever seen as tiny LinkedIn profile pictures.

So, because we’re kind, and because caffeine is basically conference infrastructure, here are a few places to grab coffee while you’re in Manchester for the day.

This isn’t meant to be the definitive “best coffee in Manchester” list. There are people far more qualified and far more caffeinated than us who have already taken that on.

This is our PMCR guide.

A mix of places near Bridgewater Hall, places Charley actually rates, places that make sense on a busy conference day, and one or two we’re including because supporting Manchester people is sort of the whole point.

Run by Nick’s good mate Mike. Help a brother out and all that

1. Ezra & Gil, Peter Street

Best for: coffee people, brunch people, and anyone who needs a decent iced latte before speaking to another human

Ezra & Gil is one of Charley’s personal favourites, especially at the weekend, and the Peter Street location is very handy for Bridgewater Hall. Her go to is the Nduja scrambled eggs if anyone actually wanted to know.

It’s a strong shout if you want proper coffee, breakfast before the conference, or somewhere to sit down for ten minutes before the day starts properly.

This one is less “we found it on Google” and more “Charley has personally spent enough money here to justify the recommendation.”

Good for: coffee, brunch, breakfast, takeaway
Watch out for: it gets busy because everyone else also has taste.

2. Haunt MCR, Peter Street

Best for: coffee, pastries and pretending you’re relaxed between sessions

Haunt is on Peter Street, close enough to Bridgewater Hall that you can get there without unintentionally turning your coffee run into a city hike, like often happens with conferences.

We like Haunt because it’s independent, central, stylish without being painfully try-hard, and actually useful for the day. You can grab coffee, pastries, brunchy bits, or sit down for a breather if you’ve got time. We also love the fact it replaced the previous Café Nero in that spot. Imagine that, a local, homegrown underdog taking on the corporates. Sounds familiar, no?

Also, it’s a good people-watching spot, which is important. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Good for: coffee, pastries, small groups, sit-down chats
Watch out for: it’s popular for nomads with laptops, so is very often quite busy if you want to sit inside.

3. Junction at Manchester Central

Best for: the closest sensible coffee option

Junction is based at Manchester Central, just across from the Bridgewater Hall area, making it one of the easiest places to get to if you don’t want to wander far.

This is the practical pick. Not every coffee run needs to be a spiritual experience with single-origin beans and a small ceramic cup. Sometimes you just need caffeine, quickly, without hitting 15K steps before 9AM.

Good for: convenience, coffee, early arrivals, quick meetings
Watch out for: Manchester Central can get busy if there are other events on (which there will be, we overlap with the housing conference there apparently?!)

4. Grind Manchester

Best for: good coffee, grab-and-go, and people who like their caffeine with nice branding

Grind is a good option if you want something that feels polished but still easy enough to grab around the conference day. It’s a bit of a hidden gem, situated in an alley behind the Rudys pizza on Peter St.

It’s a good shout for people who want a coffee that looks nice in hand, tastes decent, and love to stick it on the ‘gram to prove their having a really good time out of the office.

Good for: coffee, grab-and-go, iced drinks, nice branding
Watch out for: if everyone has the same idea, you may need to queue.

5. Blank Street Coffee

Best for: matcha people. Obviously.

Blank Street has built a bit of a following, especially around its matcha drinks, so we’re including this one for anyone who would rather have an iced matcha than a coffee.

No judgement.

Actually, a tiny bit of judgement. But supportive judgement.

It’s a good option if you want something quick, cold, sweet, caffeinated and like you’re having a dessert at 8:15AM. Some people love that don’t they? Clearly!

Good for: matcha, iced drinks, quick caffeine
Watch out for: matcha people are committed, so there may be a queue.

6. Federal, Deansgate

Best for: coffee and brunch if you’ve got a bit more time

Federal is a Manchester favourite for a reason. It’s one of those places people recommend because they’ve actually been, not JUST because they saw it on TikTok (although the did have their viral moments in lockdown IYKYK).

This is a better option if you’re arriving early, staying nearby, or want to make a bit more of your morning before heading over to Bridgewater Hall.

Good for: brunch, coffee, pre-conference breakfast
Watch out for: it’s very popular, so this is not the place to chance it with 12 people and 20 minutes.

7. Off The Press, Ancoats

Best for: supporting a proper local Manchester spot

Off The Press is based in Ancoats, so let’s be honest: it’s not the closest coffee option to Bridgewater Hall. By a stretch.

But it is exactly the kind of place we want to shout about.

It’s local, independent, community-minded, and run by Nick’s mate Mike, so frankly, it would feel criminal not to give him a shout after the amount of time Charley and Nick spend coasting those seats on co-working days.

If you’re staying around Ancoats, heading into town early, or fancy making more of your Manchester morning before the conference, this is a lovely one to add to your list.

Performance MCR has always been about bringing people into Manchester and backing the people who make the city what it is. That includes speakers, marketers, independents, cafés, mates-of-mates and the places people genuinely want to see do well.

Good for: local coffee, relaxed working, bangin’ toasties, supporting independents
Watch out for: it’s not right next to the venue, so this is more of a pre-conference or staying-nearby recommendation than a between-talks dash.

Fast caffeine options if you’re cutting it fine

If you’re running late, short on time, or simply need caffeine in your hand before your next session, there are plenty of quick options around Oxford Road, Peter Street and St Peter’s Square too.

That includes chains like Pret, Greggs and Costa.

Are they the most romantic Manchester coffee recommendations? No.

Will they save you when you’ve got seven minutes and mild caffeine withdrawal? Absolutely.

Final word

Performance MCR is a big day.

There will be talks to get to, people to meet, notes to take, sponsors to chat to and at least one moment where you realise you’ve been running entirely on adrenaline and half a pastry.

So please, get a coffee.

We WILL be supplying coffee at the venue for FREE for the first hour between check-in at 8AM and until the first talks start at 9AM and after that, it’ll be available to purchase throughout the day from the Bridgewater Hall kiosks.

But if you fancy that REAL conference experience, get up early, go treat yourself to a PROPER Manchester coffee and enjoy the mooch to the venue. Attendee to attendee, that’s how we’d start our mornings anyway.

Whether you’re going full Ezra & Gil, grabbing a quick one from Junction, treating yourself at Grind, joining the Blank Street matcha crowd, or heading to Off The Press because we like seeing good Manchester people win, there are plenty of places to get caffeine while you’re here.

And yes, an iced matcha absolutely counts as conference fuel, even if we don’t fully understand the hold it has on people.
